In his speech, Huang Ping noted that liquor-making is a time-honored classic industry explicitly recognized by the state, and that Guizhou’s sauce-flavor baijiu accounts for more than 80% of the national production capacity; for the industry to grow from large to strong, the key lies in the young generation of inheritors. The competition aims to promote learning, training and production through competition, advance industry-education integration, effectively connect university classrooms with the front line of the industry, and discover and cultivate versatile skilled talents such as liquor tasters and liquor body designers. He hoped that the contestants would stay true to their original aspiration, interpret craftsmanship through their pursuit of quality and superb skills; take the competition as a bridge to apply theoretical knowledge to industry practices such as intelligent brewing, flavor analysis and wine-tourism integration; and stay composed, compete with style and grace, and turn competition experience into valuable assets for career growth.
In his address, Tu Huabin pointed out that baijiu tasting is integrated into the whole-process quality control of baijiu production, providing the basis for process adjustment and product grading, and is a key link in baijiu quality control. Moutai attaches great importance to the cultivation of tasting talents and continuously strengthens the building of its professional team; some of the talents it has trained have grown into provincial-and national-level judges, effectively contributing to the improvement of Moutai’s quality. Hosting this competition reflects Moutai’s sense of responsibility in serving the talent development of Guizhou’s baijiu industry. He hoped that the students would compete with style and at a high level, promote learning and training through competition, test their learning outcomes and enhance their professional skills in the contest, and demonstrate the fine spirit of college students in the new era.

Yang Xiuquan said that the “Salute to Strivers” ethos advocated by Moutai Prince liquor highly matches the spirit of young students who study diligently, practice hard and pursue their dreams with skills. The sauce-flavor liquor company has supported the competition for many consecutive years in order to build an industry-education integration platform, allow young students to get closer to sauce-flavor baijiu and understand Chinese baijiu, discover and reserve young tasting talents, and inherit and carry forward baijiu culture. He hoped that the students would compete calmly and well, feel the thousand-year cultural lineage of Chinese baijiu in each cup, love baijiu as a time-honored classic industry, actively spread liquor culture, and grow into the reserve force for the development of the industry.

The competition consists of a theory session and a practical session, with 120 contestants from Guizhou University, Guizhou Institute of Technology, Guizhou Light Industry Polytechnic University, Moutai Institute and other universities. After the competition, 30 contestants will be recommended on merit, based on their rankings, to represent Guizhou in the national finals.

This qualifier is both a comprehensive contest of tasting skills and a vivid practice of industry-education integration. It has built a platform for young students to test what they have learned and learn from one another, and has discovered and reserved a group of reserve tasting talents for Guizhou’s baijiu industry. We look forward to the standout contestants displaying the grace of Guizhou’s young liquor professionals on larger stages, telling the story of Guizhou baijiu with superb skills, and injecting youthful momentum into the high-quality development of the industry.
