School of Food Engineering was established in April 2025, with its predecessor being the Department of Food Science and Engineering of Moutai Institute, which was founded in 2017. It was one of the first units in Moutai Institute to enroll undergraduate students. Under the talent cultivation model of "Industry-Education Integration and School-Enterprise Collaboration", the school focuses on the needs of high-caliber application-oriented talents in the regional specialty food and liquor brewing industries. It currently offers two undergraduate majors, namely Food Quality and Safety (approved for enrollment in 2017) and Food Science and Engineering (approved for enrollment in 2019). In addition, Food Nutrition and Health major is under preparation. There are 768 students currently enrolled in the college.
At present, the school has a total of 45 faculty members, including 1 expert managed by Zunyi City, 1 high-level innovative talent (thousand-level) in Guizhou Province, 4 professors (researchers), 24 associate professors, and 18 members with doctoral degrees, with a master-doctor ratio of 100%. There are 16 laboratories in the school, such as the Beverage/Fruit Wine Pilot Laboratory, Food Safety Testing Laboratory, and Specialty Food Resource Research Laboratory, as well as 1 labor education base. It has jointly built 14 industry-education integration bases with units such as the Quality Department of Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd., Kweichow Moutai (Group) Ecological Agriculture Industry Development Co., Ltd., and the Guizhou Provincial Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute. Among the courses offered, "Food Nutrition" and "Food Analysis" are provincial-level "Golden Courses (first-class courses)".
The school has two provincial-level scientific research platforms, namely the "Guizhou Engineering Research Center for Specialty Food Resources" and "Guizhou Engineering Research Center for Healthcare Liquor Brewing Technology". Relying on the "Talent Base for the Utilization of Specialty Food Resources of Moutai Institute", it has formed two research areas, "Development and Utilization of Regional Specialty Food Resources" and "Food Nutrition and Health". In the past five years, it has approved 5 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 13 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, publicly published more than 100 academic papers, and won 1 Third Prize of the Guizhou Natural Science Award. Students have won more than 50 provincial-level and above awards and 3 national awards in national competitions such as the "Challenge Cup", "China International College Students' Innovation Competition", and "Life Science Competition".
